Due to excessive use of bandwidth on our barrowbloggers we have decided to move it to an ordinary web page. Still the same ramblings but in the true sense of the word no longer a weblog!

Farewell to Jessica and Wilcot

We say goodbye to these two buns as they are moving on to help another exhibitor with her own choc tort plans.

Barrow Bunnies Jessica

Jessica is a chocolate tortoiseshell doe boasting all of her dams strengths (Clover) and improving on some of her weaknesses.

Wilcot
Geneotype aabbCCDdee

wilcot.jpg

Wilcot sired several litters one of which surprised us by revealing he is a blue carrier by producing some lovely beige kits with Preeti. He also sired a choc tort daughter who went Best of Breed. We will miss this lovely boy but know he is going to a fab home.

Wilcot has 4 CC  and 8 stars

Judge Mrs S. Dickenson: Good body shape, head, crown and ears. Dense coat, a touch pale colour. Fit.

Judge Mrs J.Pooke : Wins on shortness of body and shoulder width. Short front limb, good colour.

Judge Mrs H. Elliott : Excellent colour. Young adult, promising body.

Farewell Cherub

cherub261010.jpg

We bid farewell to Cherub, she is going to live with a fellow friend and exhibitor, where hopefully she will be of great use. Good luck to you both x

R.I.P. Chesney

chesneyorange.jpg

We are sad to say Chesney passed away a couple of days ago.

He was a lovely natured little buck and was a real charecter in the rabbitry.

He was unshown but used as a stud buck. We wish he could have left us more of his bloodline but sadly only Danii (sooty fawn doe) remains.

Chez is buried in Heathers front garden.

R.I.P. Barrow Bunnies Elisabeth

elizabeth3.jpg

Elizabeth was not only a beautiful looking rabbit but also a beautiful natured girl. She was a firm favourite in Debs rabbitry and she will be sorely missed.

Farewell Tiny Tim

tinytim261010.jpg

Soon we will say goodbye to Tiny Tim. During his stay with us he has sired some lovely kits, a few of which we are running on that show good potential. With such good looks we can't bare to see him 'unused' so is going to our good friend (and his breeders good friend) and fellow exhibitor to help her re-establish her otters.
We wish Tiny Tim and his new owner all the best xx

RIP Sookie Soo

Sadly Sookie passed away this evening. She will be greatly missed. She was with out doubt one of our favorites always friendly and affectionate. She is buried in the garden. RIP Sookie Soo hope to see you again one day x

Dallas
Bred by Nivarda Stud

Genotype ataBbCCDdEE

Bye Bye Dallas x

Dallas is going back to her breeder Kelly at Nivarda Stud who has decided to start up with mini lops again after a break from this lovely breed (and who can't blame her for missing them!)
Dallas has been a fab mum and produced some lovely off-spring here and we are so pleased she is going home and hope she does as well for Kelly. We'll miss Dallas but know we'll see her again.

Dallas-front.jpg

Dallas is a black otter doe. She has a fantastic coat, massive shoulders and is really cobby. She was bred from a blue otter (many BoB and Best Lops under his belt and possibly best in show?) and a chocolate self so is a carrier of blue, chocolate, otter and self, what more could we ask for? In fact she has proved this and is very valuable to us by producing stunning offspring in choc and blue otter and self.
Dallas is a great mother and she enjoys a good stroke.

R.I.P. Pickle
Bred by Hengistbury Stud

Genotype atatBBCCddEE

PickleWeb.jpg

Sadly Pickle passed away today, 19 July 2010. He was a gentle giant and will be sorely missed, but we have his offspring to carry on his genes, who have also inherited his finer qualities.
Rest in peace sweet boy xx

Pickle is a blue otter buck. He was bred from a black otter and blue otter. For a blue he has quite a nice coat and really deep strong colour. He has a lovely big head, is nice and short in the body and is a real chunky lad.........a bit of a big boy!
Pickle is a stud buck who has sired some beautiful kits, some of which are now in our breeding programme or being run on.

Hulstlanders Arrive @ BB

Tues 3rd Dec 2009

At last our eagerly awaited hulstlanders are here! After much consideration, hutch purchases and research we decided that we would like to start a second breed, something completely different from lops and we ended up with a rare fur variety! Unlike a lot of the fur breeds and also rex, hulstlanders are showable for a long time. Even after pregnancy and rearing, does coats and condition bounce back well. Asthetically there were a few things that attracted us, their thick luxury dazzling white coat, thier piercing blue eyes and overall cobbiness. Now we have them in the flesh we are even more taken with them as they have wonderful docile and friendly personalities. Our foundation stock has come from Trina Cooke in Essex who got the breed standardised and has done well with her line. We have started with a trio, a young buck, a young doe and a proven doe who is hopefully pregnant. Many thanks to Trina for our wonderful foundation stock. Please see our hulstlanders page for more information.

Fivers hidden colour!
Sat 10 Oct 2009

After a test mating between Ethel (lilac self) and Fiver (black otter) we were delighted to discover that Fiver is infact a chocolate carrier. This is fabulous news as we were starting to get disheartened with our chocolates.
Yet another plus for Fiver! Not only is he a typey boy but he can now be used to set type in out chocolates!!!!!!

Bun accomodation upgrade!

Mum has added a nine berth buck/ running on block to her rabbitry. The block was made by my dad who always makes things properly and to a very very high standard. Here is mum and Holly cutting the ribbon at the official opening ceremony. On the far right you will see the new hutches and next to that, attached to fence, a colapsable grooming table.

Work has also been underway at my house also. More details to follow.

Thank you very much dad for mums new hutches!

1st generation blue otter

Pictured below at 2 weeks and 4 days old.
This little doe was named Sky and has stayed with us and has produced some lovely kits which are now in the breeding programme also.

Fiver in F&F!

Wow! Naugty girl Heather sent a mini report and photo of Fivers success to the Fur & Feather magazine and they published it in the September issue (page 74)

Not actually a brilliant photo of Fiver as he's holding his ears back, but it was the end of the day! What a clever and handsome boy he is !

Romeo @ Frome 16/08/09

We were rather pleased to find this photo of Romeo on the BRC website in the shows photo section. He is a cracking little bunny with such a sweet temperament.

romeo_at_Frome_16_Aug_09.jpg

Romeo is going from strength to strength. Since this photo and still in the U5 section he recently gained Best of Breed at another show!

Nicky Walters, Kirstie Harris and Madison White on a high at East Stour.

' A group of friends brought together by the internet are boosting entries throughout the Southern Area Shows.

The architects of the group are the administrators of the forun Bunnies-R-Us -

Nicky Walters (lovemylops), Kirstie Harris and Tanya White (Chalcroft Stud) - but it is unusual to see one without the following of other members of the forum.

Many of the group are showing French Lops out of a line started by Nicky and obtained their first rabbits through Nicky's child-minding services or through her website.

Nicky has to share her showing interest with supporting son Jake (football), daughter Lauren (twirling) and her own interest in arts and crafts.

Kirstie has added rabbit (French and English Lop) showing to her other interest in showing horses. She has participated in the Horse of the year show, the Royal International and has recently won at tthe Royal Windsor Show. She exhibits Hack, Intermediates and small hunters. Currently she is completing her studies in equine science.

The third administrator is more of a mystery woman and is represented in photos by her more forward daughter Madison. Tanya is another busy woman and in addition to bringing up her family and showing rabbits she runs a busy nursery at Bognor.

The rabbit forum has grown over its 2 years in existence and has members throughout the country'.

Stour_008.jpg

Shown in this photgraph taken at East Stour are Kirstie, Madison, Debbie, Shannon Lafferty, Joanne Small, Nicky and Heather.

Mother and daughter Debbie and Heather exhibit under the name Barrowbunnies Stud and show Mini Lops, as does Joanne Small who had her first success with best lop at Romsey. Unfortunately she could not witness this success as she was recovering from hospitalisation. Her return to the show halls was celebrated by the group.

Bunny Love?

The Great Escape

My heart was in my mouth. To hell with decorum... dashed outside in my (loose fitting) nightie... yep, one choc doe running around behind the dog kennel... armed with brooms and foul language we attempt to corner her, but she’s having a great time playing hide and seek. After a couple of minutes there is an awful realisation… omg! There are 3 others in that hutch.

Not any more.

We give up on the choc doe for a while, knowing where she is and that she can’t go anywhere. So now we have 3 black otter does to find. By this time it’s entirely my hubby’s fault… if anyone is still asleep in our quiet village at 6.30am then they won’t be for much longer. I quickly scan the area, under the hutches. But all hubby's c**p is stored under there (by now he’s a murderer!)

I run out of the back garden, through the front garden and start to scan our old, wide box hedge… wait hubby sees one. But where I can’t see it... turns out to be in the hedge right next to the hutches…with no thought of my dress sense (remember loose nightie and oh did I mention no underwear) I’m on my knees, arse up in the air diving in to the undergrowth to retrieve bunny number 2. Returning to the hutch to put 1st caught bunny back, 2nd bunny runs up to me and says ‘take me home mummy’…phew. Just the choc doe to catch, and yep she’s still playing with us behind the kennel and 3rd otter girl to locate... Tempted to get the collies out to do some tracking, but decide against it as one prefers to retrieve their poo and the other has a blood lust for any type of bunny.

By now my bottom lip is trembling and hubby says he’s going to finish making his cup of tea. WHAT! Divorce is in the air; hubby reads the signs well and wisely decides to assist in the hunt after all.

Those damned lilies are in full bloom and now I’m using my broom like a scythe, flaying around blindly through the tears. I decide to widen the search perimeter as neighbour has terriers (gulp). Otter doe number 3 hops along and stops long enough to tease me ‘here I am', then runs off as fast as her little legs will carry her in to the lions den (next doors garden). Trapped between the 2 gardens, I dive on her like a hawk, but the slippery little so-in-so beats the odds and gets away. She goes to and forth several times between the 2 gardens  before I grab some part of her and finally get her back to the hutch.  Now, just that choc doe.. Somehow my arm extends longer than is humanly possible and she’s back in the hutch too.

BRC Photos of Shows

devon_show_09.jpg

Below is the show at Frome (March 09) Where our black mini lops are being judged.

frome_09.jpg

Debbie: Things I love/hate most about having bunnies..

  • Love seeing that potential show buck appear before my eyes at 3 weeks old. Bingo!
  • Me watching a good mummy rabbit with her kits, (even the Big Ugly Doe’s!)
  • Special cuddles with my rabbits.
  • Watching the rabbit’s hop, skip and dance in the run on the lawn.
  • A husband that builds me SOME rabbit hutches.

  •
  • Hate having to go out on a cold wet day to do my chores. I know! It has to be done, but oh to have a shed!
  • Rabbit fur that gets up your nose and in your mouth, you try to remove it and get more instead!
  • Cracking does mated to cracking bucks that produce no litter or small litters!
  • BUD’s that kindles huge litter of more big ugly bucks!!
  • A husband that won’t build me MORE rabbit hutches.
